Hi there, I’m Audrey Bodman, founder and trainer of Outshine Ltd, a telephone training company born out of my passion for developing individuals serious about building relationships and securing more business in their market.
I’d like to share with you my experience, credentials and how I came to create Outshine Telephone Training.
But first, we’ve all heard the line “practice makes perfect” right? Well, when it comes to telephone skills training and prospecting techniques, I’ve found that it’s not really that accurate.
Let me explain…
Say you work within customer service and one day everyone is tasked with being more proactive on the phone. You need to start upselling and cross selling to customers, but the idea of ‘selling’ frightens you to hell and the thought of asking your customers to consider buying more than they originally ordered, takes you right out of your comfort zone.
Or perhaps you work for an organisation that measures your success based on the results of your telephone conversations: how many appointments you make, leads you generate, products or services you sell or job outcomes. You want to make the grade, so you spend hours on the phone, making call after call, racking up the numbers, but not the results.
You see, your practice needs to be directed in a positive and productive way. That’s why I created Outshine, so you and your team can learn new telephone prospecting skills, practice them and create a better, more successful business.

Where it all began
My career began at a food and drink company, taking orders over the telephone. I quickly discovered that with a few well-chosen words, I could upsell and cross sell to customers. I got a taste for it and soon moved across to advertising sales at a regional newspaper. Whilst there I won promotion and improved my team’s performance through individual coaching sessions.
Then everything changed.
My gorgeous son was born and at a crossroads in life, I joined a company as a ‘job club leader’ working with the long-term unemployed. It wasn’t long however, before I recognised the importance of using the phone to secure jobs. I decided to build my own business around creating opportunities by phone.
Life as an entrepreneur
In 1992 I set up and managed my own telemarketing company alongside my existing training business. I became one of the first telemarketing companies in the East Midlands to gain the Investors in People award, a testament to how highly I value the people I work with.
The excitement of harnessing my communications skills to create and grow my own business was irresistible and over the years I established further businesses in areas where the ability to communicate effectively by telephone is critical to success. These have included magazine publishing, networking and business coaching. My first book on telephone techniques for success in business is on its way!
Growth and opportunities
Fast forward to today and Outshine is built on my firm foundations as a practitioner and accomplished telephone skills trainer with over 25 years’ experience. Sitting behind a desk is most definitely not my style; I work with clients across the country, both independently and also as a training partner with a small number of large training companies in the UK.
It’s pretty fair to say, I love what I do. In fact, I still practice my own technique regularly.
